Paper as a Playground

Puli’s pristine waters have long produced exceptional paper. At its peak in the 1970s, the region boasted 58 paper mills, crafting everything from traditional Xuan paper to innovative machine-made varieties, earning acclaim both locally and internationally. Today, however, fewer than ten mills remain, and many local children are unaware of this rich heritage. This event aims to bridge that gap by combining paper with play, inviting Puli’s youth to explore the wonders of traditional paper craft through fun and discovery. Held beside the Zhiliao Pit Stream in Taomei—the historic site of Puli’s first Qing Dynasty paper workshop—this event encourages participants to return to the source. It is designed as a deeply engaging cultural and educational scavenger hunt.

Registration: On-site registration only. Limited to 300 children. Complete the challenges to receive a souvenir.

Educational	Mystery Box	Place your hand in a spooky box and feel the texture of different papers.
Educational	Paper Tug-of-War	Compete against the host in a tug-of-war using paper strips.
Educational	Guess Who I Am	The host crumples 10 types of paper for children to hear and identifies them. Children must guess correctly; identifying 3 types passes the challenge.
Fun	Blow Painting Art	Children choose three colors and blow paint along the edges of a large canvas to create their own artwork.
Fun	Three-Stage Challenge	Complete three tasks: Stage 1: Get 3 out of 10 ping-pong balls into a paper tube. Stage 2: Keep a tissue in the air for 10 seconds by blowing. Stage 3: Knock down all cans with 3 balls.
Fun	Cocoa Fun	Learn about chocolate facts and use paper tools to create chocolate-themed items and hand-drawn process charts.
Fun	Long Lasting	Paper airplane contest: the plane that stays airborne the longest wins. The final round is a competition against the host.
Eco-Friendly	Paper Must Be Green	Introduce various everyday papers, have children categorize them as eco-friendly or not, and conclude with key takeaways.
Eco-Friendly	The Tree’s Secret	Guess which part of the tree is used for papermaking, assemble the puzzle, and read the slogan hidden in the puzzle pieces (Tree Protection Slogan).
